Transferring rearing technology from Serbia to Montenegro
TRISA brought together Belinda Animals and Veterinum in Ulcinj to transfer practical Tenebrio molitor rearing knowledge. Support through Serbia’s Official Development Assistance initiative and UNDP enabled Serbian development experience to be applied in a partner pilot setting.

Three connected phases
The work began with feasibility and market assessment, followed by pilot-space preparation, technology transfer and training. The final phase involved operational monitoring, mentoring and an increase in the number of rearing batches.

The Ulcinj pilot centre
The pilot centre has a dedicated area of approximately 30 m², equipped to control and monitor temperature and humidity. Veterinum assigned one agricultural specialist and three operational staff to daily activities. Belinda provided technical expertise and training in colony and rearing-process management.

Training and progress
On 23 April 2024, training for 22 participants took place at Hotel Barjaktar and Veterinum’s premises. Classroom sessions were combined with a centre visit and practical demonstrations. By 26 June, ten new batches had been started in addition to five existing ones, bringing the total to fifteen active batches.

Value for future cooperation
TRISA demonstrates the transfer of a complete process, from preparation and training to operational follow-up. Partner experiments also explored potential bee-feed applications of larvae-derived products as a direction requiring further research.
